Block Progress

Moda Blockheads 2020

It’s time for me to stop calling these blocks by that name… not only have I lost interest in doing the quilt along, only a handful of my blocks are from the quilt along.

I was quite enjoying it until I had a number of blocks, and remembered why I don’t care for sampler quilts… they drive my eye crazy.

There doesn’t seem to be anything to focus on, no place for the eye to rest, and I find them rather unsettling to look at.

I’ve already discarded five of the blocks completely that I’d made, and there’s a couple more in here I’m not sure can stay either.

I’ve used far too much of the fabric to be able to something else entirely, so I will continue making random twelve inch blocks until I either run out of fabric or can’t stand the chaos anymore.

I baked some bread yesterday for my mom and took her some eggs. She’s going a bit stir crazy and I feel terrible that we can’t really sit and visit, or play our weekly Scrabble games.

I would have to agree with you on sampler quilts. I made one called Minglewood and liked the experience of blocks with sometimes 40 -64 pieces in them. I decided I don’t care for them either, so never participate. I do however, collect the blocks, just in case I want to use one for a quilt.

You must be quite stocked up on flour. I’m almost out and haven’t been able to find anymore in stores (at least when I have gone). I was mad at myself for “wasting” 2 cups on a strawberry bread recipe that I saw as it didn’t turn out that good. I mean the bread part is moist, just not any strawberry taste.

    Stay healthy and safe 🙂

Yes it is fun to try new blocks, but I simply prefer a more cohesive looks to quilts.

I don’t have a lot of regular flour, but I have plenty of grains. I buy those in 50lb bags, store them in buckets and mill my flours fresh as I need them. Those loaves are 100% whole wheat, which I have plenty of. I save my white flour for pizza, and I mix my pasta dough with half white flour as well. Cookies I generally bake with whole wheat pastry flour. I don’t use a lot of white.

I like most of the blocks, but not really together. I agree it needs a resting place. Unless sashing would make a difference. Bread look so good.

Oh there will definitely be sashing. But I still won’t like it 🙂

I like sampler quilts, I don’t like making the blocks. I prefer a quilt that I can do the cutting and then get on to the stitching. The going back and forth between cutting and stitching seems so inefficient. I will be happy to take any rejected sampler blocks. 😉

How funny, it’s just the opposite for me. I enjoy doing each individual block, but don’t like the way sampler quilts look. 😁

Our family has done some family game nights via Zoom. If you both have a scrabble game, you might be able to do it 🙂

Oh heavens, we live out where fast internet is nothing more than a pipe dream. Never happen on our connection 🙂
