I finished the petticoat for the suffrage outfit this morning. While I would love to create a full set of undergarments (chemise and corset… and I may, just for the fun) those two items won’t look nice under my doll blouse, so I’ll have to be content with the drawers and petticoat. Both items are from “Victorian Unmentionables” by Thimbles and Acorns.
You may have noticed the undergarments are in white batiste, while the dress and blouse are ivory. I really like the effect, even though you can’t see it when the dress is on.
I have a jacket in mind I’d like to try, but I’m not sure I will succeed at it. It may be outside my skill range, and the fabric I want to use may not work… I still don’t have enough experience with this type of sewing to know or not until I try and either fail or it works.
This is a gorgeous piece of linen I actually bought to make myself a blouse, but after washing and drying it three times (which is what I’ve read one should do for linen), it’s a bit shy of the amount needed for a blouse. Lesson learned! It may be too heavy for doll clothing, but it is a jacket and I’m going to try. I don’t have any idea of how difficult linen is to sew on either, especially at such a small scale, but I’m game to try!
I’d also like to make a hat to complete the outfit, but haven’t decided on one yet, nor have I ever tried my hand at millinery!
I’m off to Walmart before the masses hit for my twice monthly grocery run. I think I’ll pick up a slab of salmon and smoke it for dinner.
