Petticoat

I finished the petticoat for the suffrage outfit this morning. While I would love to create a full set of undergarments (chemise and corset… and I may, just for the fun) those two items won’t look nice under my doll blouse, so I’ll have to be content with the drawers and petticoat. Both items are from “Victorian Unmentionables” by Thimbles and Acorns.

You may have noticed the undergarments are in white batiste, while the dress and blouse are ivory. I really like the effect, even though you can’t see it when the dress is on.

I have a jacket in mind I’d like to try, but I’m not sure I will succeed at it. It may be outside my skill range, and the fabric I want to use may not work… I still don’t have enough experience with this type of sewing to know or not until I try and either fail or it works.

This is a gorgeous piece of linen I actually bought to make myself a blouse, but after washing and drying it three times (which is what I’ve read one should do for linen), it’s a bit shy of the amount needed for a blouse. Lesson learned! It may be too heavy for doll clothing, but it is a jacket and I’m going to try. I don’t have any idea of how difficult linen is to sew on either, especially at such a small scale, but I’m game to try!

I’d also like to make a hat to complete the outfit, but haven’t decided on one yet, nor have I ever tried my hand at millinery!

I’m off to Walmart before the masses hit for my twice monthly grocery run. I think I’ll pick up a slab of salmon and smoke it for dinner.

Your creative brain cells are firing on all cylinders. Do you dream about sewing? I am enjoying your journey immensely and can’t wait to see if the jacket is possible, it would be so perfect.
Give my best to Miss Myrtle, I had not read that the virus had started crossing over to mice. A real shame.

Yes I do dream about sewing, how did you guess? LOL. I really, really want the jacket to work. We shall see. Miss Myrtle very much appreciates your concern, she adores her fan base! She caught the virus at the eye doctor’s office, there were quite a few mice in attendance, unfortunately. They were not practicing social distancing! 🙂 🙂

I’m loving this thread so much!! Inspiring as always, and so fun, too! It looks like you’re able to get much more sewing done with out Miss Myrtle’s “input”, so we’ll rack up her illness as a plus at this point (and I know, Miss Myrtle is not adoring me for such a comment). LOL!

I’m surprised I haven’t run everyone off with this thread LOL. But I am enjoying sewing more than I have in years, so that’s okay. I’m happy to hear you like watching my outfit progression! Miss Myrtle is a bit hoity toity, so that’s okay. She got out of bed yesterday 🙂

Your feedback is always welcome! If you have a question, I will respond to it here.
