The Maybe Hat?

I actually quite like the look of the plain straw hat with the suffrage outfit, but I did want to make one or two myself and see how they looked.

This one is from the “Frous Frous” pattern by MHD Designs. Mine of course will never look as good as anything she does, the talent she possesses is out of this world!

I’d love to know what you think, if you like the hat, and if you think it’s period appropriate, or if I should go back to the drawing board. I promise, you will not hurt my feelings!

I love this hat, but if you google women’s suffrage hats most have a brim. Maybe this could be the hat she wears when not “marching”.

I’m not sure I love it or not, but I’ve been googling suffrage clothing pretty much nonstop, and the hats are all over the place! Yes, most are simple straw hats with a fairly short crown and narrow brim, others are great confectionary things, and some are trending towards the cloche style.

You are talented too! I don’t know how you made something so small! It doesn’t quite look period though to me. I think if the brim were smaller, it would look more like things I’ve seen in pix.

Went and looked at some period pix—brims not smaller—but stick out more perpendicular to the ground.

Yes the plain straw ones. I forget what those are called. But if you find images of an actual protest, you’ll see a variety of hats.

    I love it ~ I’d wear it <3

I saw a cool pattern on Etsy for a 1920’s style cloche pattern I nearly bought… then remembered I hate hats. LOL

I think I’m going to make it again, and shorten the crown a bit, and see what I think.
