My iris beds are beginning to pop. I have so many purple irises of the old variety, found along ditches and abandoned home sites. I also have quite a few of the white ones, which are my least favorite, but they were here at the house when we bought it and I have split them many times over the years.
Irises are my favorite flower, and they were loved by my youngest son as well. April is a bittersweet month for me, as they begin to bloom I’m equally torn between joy and grief. The specialty irises I planted for my him have started to bloom as of yesterday, and you will see a lot of flower shots from me this month.
Mom and I enjoyed the Italian 00 flour pizza experiment, but it didn’t brown well. Doing a bit more research, I learned that it performs better at higher temps that I can’t achieve in my home oven, but I should be able to improve it by adding diastatic malt to it, so will try that next time.
Still made at 65% hydration. The flour is very fine, and I’m not sure how well it would perform at 75%.
I had the Hvac guys out for our annual servicing, and it looks like our upstairs unit is on it’s last legs. We replaced the main unit about five years ago, so I guess it’s time. Maybe we can squeak another year or two out of it :).
Cosmo and I have been really enjoying asparagus season. Jim and I use to grow our own, but gave up as Cosmo would run out and eat all the tips as they came up, he loves it as much as we do. I buy it now, and give Cosmo the lower quarter of each spear and eat the rest myself. Crazy dog!
Miss Myrtle continues her reign of terror. I wouldn’t be surprised to find her in my sewing room stitching up a cat saddle!
