Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

Recipe, Bees and Blooms… Oh and Idiots

Ahh… I almost made it an entire day without baking a goodie of some sort! At least they are whole wheat right? They’re every bit as delicious as those made with white flour, in face, I think I prefer these and my gluten free chocolate chips cookies to those made with white flour.

Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup butter softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups finely milled whole wheat pastry flour (soft wheat)
2 cups dark chocolate chips
2 cups whole pecans

Cream together the butter and both sugars until smooth.

Add the eggs and vanilla and mix thoroughly.

Add the soda, baking powder, salt and flour and mix well.

Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts.

Bake in a 350 (convection) degree oven about 16 minutes. My oven bakes a little differently than most I’ve used, so just bake until they’re golden in color. If your oven isn’t convection, bake at 375 degrees.

So I went to Walmart this afternoon to pickup my grocery order I’d sent in online. I wore my face mask I’d made, even though I knew I wouldn’t be getting out of the car, I wasn’t sure if the Walmart employee that brought my groceries out would respect the six foot rule. He did. But I was blown away that Walmart appeared to be packed, town was packed, and I didn’t notice a single person wearing a mask. Idiots.

That reminds me, in the short while I had my mask on, the floral wire I used per the pattern snapped. So, I won’t be adding that to any more of the masks I make.

I took my mom’s over to her before I went to Walmart, along with some of the cookies I baked, and a container of mostaccioli I assembled earlier today… it’s in the oven now. Yum. This girl can’t wait for a glass of wine and a bowl of pasta!

While I was mixing up sourdough to proof overnight for tomorrow’s bread bake, I thought I heard another bee swarm.

Yeppers! Another big one! Jim went out to hive it, and the chickens ran over to help.

How quickly they ran off when they realized they might get stung! One of the roosters got stung yesterday messing with a freshly hived swarm box and he didn’t like that at all! Yeah buddy, welcome to my world.

The jessamine along the orchard fence is blooming profusely, and the tulips are starting to open up.

And that’s it for me today. I’m pooped. There’s a million things to be done and never enough time… pray tell how anyone is bored staying home? Send them my way, I could use the help!

I will make those cookies when all this craziness goes away and I can find finely milled whole wheat flour–I have some Montana Wheat whole wheat flour–not sure it would work, I might just try it. And yes, I went to the grocery store last week in my mask and gloves–everyone (and there were a lot of people) looked at me as if I were crazy! Do you still live in Arkansas CJ? Janna

Yes I’m in Arkansas Janna. Montana wheat is the best! I love their hard spring white wheat for bread, and their soft white wheat is what I use in cookies, muffins, etc. Here Jim and I have been hunkered down at home, and it would seem not everyone else is, as you saw for yourself.

CJ, I think I’m going to use pipe cleaners. Hope that works.

Diane, I have some pipe cleaners coming from Amazon, that was my original intent also. But, I’m not sure how easy they will be to sew into the casing?

FYI: Not sure the date of your blog on the WW cookies, but I do NOT wear a mask. I got vaccinated so I didn’t have to wear one. That’s being smart!

That blog post was in March. Vaccines for my age group weren’t yet available here. I’m fully vaccinated and no longer where a mask unless the business requires it.

Your feedback is always welcome! If you have a question, I will respond to it here.
